De-Stress from “RE” Stress.
Buying or selling real estate can be a very emotional process.
It doesn’t how many times you’ve done it. It doesn’t matter whether you have lived there for 2 years or 25 years, or whether you’re only there three weeks per year. Inevitably, at some point in the process, your emotions will get the better of you. When “RE” stress hits, it’s important to keep the important things in focus.
Our brains can be our best friends and our worst enemies, but they always mean well. Even though it can seem like our own minds are at odds with our own goals (hello? Are we not on the same team here?), the self-preservation response can cloud our judgment and keep us from staying calm and clearheaded.
Have you ever had a big party to plan or presentation to give? When the initial excitement of getting the opportunity wears off, we’re often left with the sheer dread of the actual reality of pulling this thing together. And then what happens? Even if our hair’s on fire and it seems like we’re scrambling until the last minute, somehow or other, everything goes off without a hitch (even if it doesn’t feel that way until later).
The point is this: There are many, many places during the real estate transaction where your brain will sabotage you in its well-meaning but ill-conceived desire to protect you (i.e. itself). Try to recognize when you’re up against one of those, and remind yourself why you’ve made this decision. Then take a deep, cleansing breath, and go do something else.
When nothing else feels certain and you’re on the edge, just remember — if we’re in your corner, then we have you covered.
